Loyola returns, Pallotti moves up; team previews, storylines

2021 MIAA FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Defending champions (2019): Mount St. Joseph (A); St. Vincent Pallotti (B)

Longest tenured coach: Ritchie Schell, Boys’ Latin School (21st season)

Longest winning streak: 6 – Mount St. Joseph

Top overall player: Dani Dennis-Sutton, McDonogh School, Sr., Defensive end

Team to beat: A – McDonogh School: With several Division I prospects like Dennis-Sutton (Penn State commit), Preston Howard (Maryland), Quan Williams (Boston College) and Jaden Martin, the Eagles may be more talented than the 2013 A title team (11-0), regarded the best in school history.

B – Loyola Blakefield: After being A stalwart in the MIAA and MSA leagues for decades, the Dons move to the B after playing an independent schedule since 2017. Senior linebacker Anko Saka, a Northwestern commit, is one of the area’s elite, and Jayden Moore, is set to replace brother Jordan (Duke) at quarterback.

C – Our Lady of Mount Carmel: The Cougars may be ready for a big splash under first-year coach and former Calvert Hall and St. Frances assistant Devin Redd, with a new roster with transfers and promising freshman.
