Rain had repeatedly played havoc with the conclusion of the MIAA B Conference baseball regular season, but the last game was played on Sunday with Severn defeating Boys’ Latin, 9-4, to finally set the seeds for the league’s double-elimination playoff tournament, which gets underway on Monday.
Boys’ Latin had already clinched the top-seed, but Severn’s win allowed the Admirals to complete a regular season sweep of the Lakers which gave them a tie-break advantage over both Glenelg Country and Annapolis Area Christian, as all three teams finished 9-5 in league play. The three squads tied for second were all even in head-to-head play, so Severn got the nod for the second seed by virtue of two wins over BL. AACS had one win over Boys’ Latin so it took the third seed, while Glenelg Country, which lost both of its meeting with the Lakers, settled for the fourth seed.
Already in place were 5th-seeded St. Vincent Pallotti and 6th-seeded Mount Carmel.
In Monday’s tournament opening round, Mount Carmel will visit AACS and Pallotti will play Glenelg Country in Ellicott City. Boys’ Latin will host the Glenelg Country/Pallotti winner on Tuesday, while the AACS/Mount Carmel winner will travel to Severn on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, Monday’s losing teams will meet, at the higher seed, in the event’s first elimination game.
