Lakers thump Oxbridge Academy, 12-5; Spalding tops Dallas Jesuit in College Park; Calvert Hall wins two more in Carolina; John Carroll loses in opener
In Flordia for a two game swing, the Boys’ Latin lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the young season, Saturday, with a 12-5 win over Oxbridge Academy.
Matt Brandau and Brendan Grimes each registered hat-tricks in the victory and Grimes added an assist. Cameron Spencer produced two goals and an assist and Ryan Spilman one goal and one assist for the Lakers.
Ben Smith and Blake Gonzalez also scored for BL, while JP Barbeau, Brenden Crouse and Konner Caplin contributed assists.
Archbishop Spalding also moved to 2-0 as the Cavaliers defeated Dallas Jesuit (TX), 7-5, at the University of Maryland, following Maryland’s Division I game with Albany University, Saturday evening.
Dan Shay led the offense with three goals and an assist. Will Sherwood netted two goals and added an assist and Russell Melendez had one goal and one assist. In addition, Nick McFarland had a goal.
Spalding led 6-2 after three quarters before Dallas Jesuit made a fourth quarter run.
In North Carolina, Calvert Hall completed a sweep of its three game southern swing with a 16-7 win over Ponte Verde (FL), on Saturday, and a 12-4 victory over Westlake (TX), on Sunday.
Brothers Kelly, Jacob and Daniel, cranked up the stat sheet once again, combining for seven goals and six assists in the win over Ponte Verde.
Zach Green, Grant Mitchell and Cole Herbert all had two goals and one assist for the Cardinals and Ryan Swain had one goal and two assists. In addition Timmy Kroneberger had a goal and Jack Connelly had an assist.
In Sunday’s victory, Herbert had a team-high four goals for the Cardinals and Jacob Kelly was the high point man with a hat-trick and four assists. Jack Sawyer had two goals, Daniel Kelly had a goal and two assists. Swain and Griffin Ackley netted the other two goals, while Trey Smith and Peter Ilardo each had an assist.
John Carroll, the newest member of the MIAA A Conference, opened its season with tough loss, falling 10-9 at home to Collegiate School (VA).
