No. 11 McDonogh School dominated the second half as it pulled away from MIAA A Conference rival and eighth-ranked Calvert Hall to win the championship game of the 50th annual Benedictine Capital City Classic, 67-49, Tuesday in Richmond, Va.

In winning for the sixth straight time and first Benedictine tourney crown since 2011, McDonogh (12-4 overall) avenged a 77-66 loss to the Cardinals a few weeks ago in Towson. The Owings Mills school built a 7-point lead at half Tuesday and steadily grew its advantage to as much as 25 points, late in the fourth quarter.

Noah Locke had 21 points (four three-pointers) and 4 rebounds to lead the Eagles, and Bruce Moore added 19 points and four points. Moore, a 6-foot-8 Bucknell University recruit was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, leading a defense that held its three opponents under 50 points.

Junior point guard Damian Chong-Qui had another outstanding game with 7 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Locke and Chong-Qui made the all-tournament team.

Justin Gorham led Calvert Hall (10-4) with 12 points. The 6-7 Towson-bound forward was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Calvert Hall’s Brendan Adams and Austin Griffths was also selected to all-tournament team along with Donte Doleman from St. Maria Goretti. Goretti defeated McKinley Tech from the District, 85-57, in the fifth-place consolation match.
