Top-ranked McDonogh remained undefeated in boys soccer, Wednesday, defeating No. 11 Calvert Hall, 5-0, for the second time this season.
Nick Brown scored twice and Connor Smith had a goal and two assists for the Eagles (15-0, 13-0) who are one win away from locking up the top playoff seed in the conference, with three to play.
The Eagles lead second-place Loyola, who they will meet on Friday, by nine points. The third-ranked Dons hold a five point lead over No. 5 St. Paul’s in the battle for second-place and the second first round playoff bye.
St. Paul’s, which dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 19 Archbishop Spalding, also on Wednesday, needs one more win to clinch third-place. The Cavaliers are trying to lock up fourth-place which would give them a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
Currently, Spalding holds a one-point lead over No. 10 Archbishop Curley, which shutout Gilman, 3-0, Wednesday. The Friars received goals from Alejandro Arbelaez, Kevin Villeda and Matt Brummet.
Calvert Hall (6-6-3, 4-5-3) is in sixth-place, six points ahead of John Carroll in the chase for the final playoff spot.
