Two teams hoping to make an impact at the upper end of the MIAA A Conference this season played the first league game of the 2015-16 basketball season, Tuesday in Ellicott City, and visiting McDonogh escaped with a narrow 48-45 victory.

Senior guard Damian Chong-Qui continued the hot start he has had to open the year by scoring 20 points, helping the Eagles break down Glenelg Country’s tough 1-3-1 zone. Chong-Qui also dished out seven assists.

Noah Locke also had a strong game for McDonogh (4-1, 1-0), scoring 14 points and grabbing 9 rebounds.

The game was tight throughout, but McDonogh led most of the way. The Eagles built a four point lead after one quarter and led 25-23 at the half. The Dragons trimmed their deficit to one entering the final quarter.

Isaiah Burnett was the only Glenelg Country player in double-figures as he connected on five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points. Anthony Longpré and Jalen Gabbidon scored seven points each for the Dragons (1-1, 0-1)
