Petrea leads the way with a pair of goals for the 4th-ranked Eagles

Playing perhaps its best match of the season, No. 4 McDonogh looks like it is finding its stride after an impressive 4-0 MIAA A Conference road win over No. 8 Loyola, Wednesday at Blakefield.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles exploded for four goals in the second half to secure the win. McDonogh was lead by Vince Petrera with two goals, while Mason Christian and Joel Brown added one each. Connor Smith made 6 saves in his first shutout of the year.

Petrera and Brown also had an assist, as did Matt Owusu and Ethan Glaser.

Despite some early season struggles after opening the year with the area’s No. 1 ranking, McDonogh improved to 5-3-1 overall and is now 3-2 in the MIAA A Conference. The Eagles are now tied for first place in the Red Division with Gilman and Mount St. Joseph.

McDonogh will host Boys’ Latin on Friday and Loyola (3-3-1, 2-2-1) will travel to St. Joe on Friday.
