Eagles roll Ohio squad for top honor at Josh Palmer Fund tournament; Billups named MVP

Jared Billups (left) was named MVP of the National Division bracket for McDonogh while teammates Mathani Paul Swinson (Mr. Hustle), Preston Howard (sixth-man award) and Everett Cooper (all-tournament team) received honors.

Jared Billups had 19 points and six rebounds, and sophomore Dani Dennis-Sutton posted a double-double as McDonogh School defeated Ohio’s Paintersville Harvey, 65-33, to win the National Division bracket at the Josh Palmer Fund/Elmira Holiday Inn Tournament in upstate New York Monday evening.

The Owings Mills school built a 38-13 halftime advanatage as Billups was selected the tourney’s Most Valuable Player. Everett Cooper was named all-tournament, sophomore Preston Howard won the Sixth-Man Award and Mathani Paul Swinson claimed the Mr. Hustle Award.

Dennis-Sutton finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for the Eagles (9-8 overall), who are above .500 for the first time since early December. McDonogh returns to MIAA A Conference action Friday against No. 12 John Carroll School.
