Eagles blank St. Paul’s; Cardinals edge Spalding

Third-ranked McDonogh and No. 7 Calvert Hall both improved to 2-0 in MIAA A Conference soccer, Wednesday, as both squads prevailed on the road.

McDonogh (3-0 overall) rolled to a 3-0 victory over St. Paul’s in Brooklandville, as Casey Settleman led the way with two goals and an assist.

Luke Davis also scored for the Eagles, while Andrew Privet and Jake Steinberg added assists.

In Severna Park, defending A Conference champion Calvert Hall came from behind to defeat Archbishop Spalding, 2-1.

All of the scoring took place in the first half. Spalding jumped on top early with an unassisted tally by Henry Hardart. The Cardinals, however, struck back with a pair of scores in a 10-minute span, as they went on top.

Joe Van Detta had a goal and an assist to pace the Calvert Hall effort. Kyler Barnard netted the first Cardinal goal and Ben Bender added an assist.

Spalding fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the league. St. Paul’s is also 0-2 in league play.
