Team Maryland has announced its roster for the Big 26 Baseball Classic, as it will face its Pennsylvania rivals in a three game series, July 15-17, at Metrobank Park in Harrisburg, Pa.
The 26-man MD squad will look to make it two straight series wins and take the overall lead in the series which begain in 2012. Maryland won the first year, 2-1, but Pennsylvania rebounded to sweep the series in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, Maryland won the first two games and the third contest ended in a draw.
The 2016 Maryland team, which will be lead by St. Mary’s coach Johnny Poss for a second straight year, features 11 players from the MIAA and seven from the WCAC. The rest are scattered from throughout the state.
The Big 26 is and offshoot of the Big 33 Football Classic, which is also currently contested between Pennsylvania and Maryland. The teams are comprised of sophomores and juniors who tryout for their respective state squads. Players stay with host families while in Harrisburg for the series and take part in many community based events before the competition begins.
