Dons rout Spalding, 69-52


Loyola Blakefield scored 69 points for a second straight game and won the fourth straight time, Friday, using a big third quarter to rout visiting Archbishop Spalding, 69, 52, in MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic League action.

The Dons outscored Spalding 25-9 in the third. Loyola had four players score in double figures in the contest, led by 21 from junior Conner Hepting. Cam Shaw (15 points), JJ Halaby (14 points) and Tryllian Young (10 points) were the other players in double figures.

Spalding converted on eight 3-pointers in the game to hang around and the Cavaliers were led by Josh Akers, who had 14 points.

Earlier this week, Loyola defeated Mount Carmel, 69-62, with a similar breakout quarter, this time in the fourth, when the Dons outscored the Cougars 21-14.

Halaby had 20 first half points and finished with 22 for the game. Shaw led all scorers with 26 points including 21 in the second half. Dominic Carrington led Mt. Carmel with 19 points and Jordan Jones added 15.
