by Derek Toney

After a dominating win over St. Vincent Pallotti last weekend, Loyola Blakefield has earned a spot in this week’s Maryland State Media Football Top 25.

The Dons are 21st, courtesy of a 34-6 victory over the then-No. 11 state-ranked Panthers. Loyola was No. 21 in the preseason state poll, but lost to St. Mary’s in its season opener. The Dons are joined by Broadneck (25th) as area newcomers in the latest state rankings.

St. Frances Academy is again No. 1, and Archbishop Spalding maintains the No. 3 spot. Calvert Hall College is up a spot to 6th, while Mount St. Joseph (8th), Franklin (No. 12) and Milford Mill Academy (19th) hold their position from last week.

MIAA B Conference squads St. Mary’s and Concordia Prep, received eight and seven votes, respectively. Atholton (four), Pallotti (three) and Dunbar (one) also received votes.
