No. 5 Loyola made great progress from its first game to its second and improved even more in its third, claiming its first victory of 2016, Friday, as the Dons went on the road and defeated Gilman, 2-1, MIAA A Conference soccer action.
Gilman’s Teddy Ndje scored the first goal of the game, as the ball bounced away from two Loyola defenders to Ndje, who slotted it home from inside of 10 yards.
Loyola (1-2, 1-2) came out strong in the second half searching for the tying goal and got it from Alex Reid, with about 10 minutes to play, as he hit header, assisted by Matt Lala. Nick Battaglia scored the game winner with 4 minutes left off a volley from a cross that was flicked on by a Reid header.
Chris Karpovich was sharp in goal again with 5 saves. Gilman slipped to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
