Dons stop a three game skid with a 68-61 win
After playing a pair of overtime games last season, Loyola and No. 13 Pallotti played another one Wednesday night in Laurel and, unlike both of last season’s meetings, this time the visiting Dons came out on top, 68-61.
The Dons (7-6, 3-3 MIAA A), who snapped a three game losing streak with the victory, prevailed by controlling the overtime, especially at the free throw line where they connected on 11 of their final 12 shots.
Junior Mitch Fischer led the way for Loyola with 21 points. Jordan Moore added 15 and Tryllian Young added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Loyola held a 28-20 lead at the half behind strong defense and five three-pointers. Pallotti stormed back to take a 39-36 lead after three quarters and, with the game tied at 55 with seven seconds remaining, the Panthers missed on an opportunity to win it in regulation, hitting a three-pointer just after time expired.
Pallotti (5-7, 2-3), coming off a loss in the championship game of the Bullis Tournament on Sunday, also had three players in double figures. Junior Joemel McNair led the Panthers with 17 points. Anthony Blunt added 14 and Miles Mallory scored 12.
