Friars now have sole possession of first place in MIAA A Conference
Archbishop Curley, which vaulted up to No. 3 in this week’s VSN Baseball Top 20, won its 10th consecutive game, Tuesday at home, as the Friars defeated Gilman, 4-1, in a MIAA A Conference action at Curley.
With the win Curley (10-1 overall) improved to 5-0 in the A Conference and took a half game lead over John Carroll, which is also undefeated in the league at 4-0. John Carroll, which had its game with Loyola postponed on Tuesday, will host the Friars on Thursday in a key early season showdown between the league’s surprise front runners.
All of the scoring in the contest took place in the fourth inning. Gilman moved in front in the top of frame on an RBI double by Joe Melancon and Curley responded with four runs in the home half of the frame, all produced by a grand slam home run by senior Tyler Locklear. It was Locklear’s third home run of the year and he now has 17 RBI’s this spring.
