Eagles hold off a late run by Spalding

Playing at home in Owings Mills, Monday evening, McDonogh’s boy’s basketball team held off a late surge by winless Archbishop Spalding to come away away with a 59-53 MIAA A Conference win over the Cavaliers.

McDonogh took control in the opening quarter, outscoring Spalding (0-8 overall, 0-4 MIAA) 22-7. The Cavaliers steady the ship, but still trailed by 15 at the half and again at the end of the third quarter, before battling all the way back to within six at game’s end.

McDonogh (4-3 overall, 2-1 MIAA A) received 48 of its 59 points from just two players as Noah Locke drained four three-pointers and netted 27 points to lead all scorers. Drew Green scored 21 to help the McDonogh cause.

Junior Amir Hall scored 22 points to lead Spalding, while Rene Alphonso and Joshua Akers scored 12 each.
