Less than 12 hours after scoring a big non-conference victory over DC area power Riverdale Baptist, No. 2 Calvert Hall was back on the baseball diamond at Carlo Crispino Stadium, Saturday, to challenge Malvern Prep, one of Philadelphia’s top prep baseball programs, and the Cardinals rallied for a 6-5 win.
Malvern led 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but Calvert Hall (17-7) scored four times to tie the contest before getting a walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh.
Colin Gimblet, who has been swinging a hot bat for coach Lou Eckerl, homered and had three RBI in the victory.
Gimblet’s home run was a two-run shot to start the Cardinals’ tying rally in the sixth. He also led off the seventh with a walk, before being replaced by a courtesy runner Tyler Webster, who came around to score the game-winning on a double by Rich Rodriguez.
Zack Rowe also had two hits and two RBI for the Cardinals, while Rich and Manny Rodriguez also had two hits each. Rich Farley walked twice and scored two runs.
Ben Deaver pitched the final two innings, allowing just two hits and no runs, while striking out three, to earn the win.
