Game one took 58 points to decide, but once Archbishop Spalding survived it with a 30-28 victory, the Cavs were on their way to a four set victory over Calvert Hall in MIAA volleyball, Wednesday at Calvert Hall.
Jaylen Jasper was dominated throughout the 30-28, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18 match, as he led Spalding with 27 kills.
“We knew it was going to be tough visiting Calvert Hall. I told the boys that we need to play tough defense and be aggressive at the net,” said Spalding coach Tuan Nguyen. “Everyone contribute in one way or another and the team fought hard and persevered against a very good team and volleyball program.”
Junior Zach Eckel setup several of Jasper’s strikes and finished the match with 47 assists. Brad Pruissen also benefitted from Eckel’s setting, finishing with 10 kills.
A trio of Cavs had big days from the service line, with Jacob Rombach going 18-for-18, Jason Somers going 18-for-21 with four aces and Connor Managan going 16-for-20.
