Junior running back Sam James rushed for 77 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Christian Carter tossed a pair of touchdowns as No. 4 Mount St. Joseph High defeated Capital Christian Academy from Prince George’s County, 42-0, in a non-league football contest Saturday at Pleyvak Field in Irvington.
It’s the third straight victory for the Gaels (3-1 overall) after a close loss to Montgomery County’s Good Counsel, ranked No. 2 in the state, in their season debut. Marlowe Wax rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown Saturday.
Matt McDonald (15 yards) and Keyshawn Hailey (5) caught scoring throws from Carter (10-of-16, 145 yards, INT). Gary Augrs had a team-best four catches for 75 yards.
The Gaels welcome defending MIAA A champ and 12th-ranked Gilman School in the league opener for both Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pleyvak. Gilman has won the last eight meetings including a 30-7 decision last season.
