Long awaited basketball season kicks off with seven games tonight

In a normal year, it would be playoff season for the basketball teams in the MIAA, but as everyone knows, this has been no normal year.

Wednesday night, however, the familiar sounds of squeaking sneakers will resound from MIAA gym floors as the abbreviated 2021 season tips off with six games in the A Conference and one in the B Conference.

In the A Conference, 13 of the 14 member schools will play 12 league opponents over the next month. Only Boys’ Latin, of the schools regularly in the A Conference for basketball opted out of the current season.

Wednesday’s opening A Conference slate is as follows:

Glenelg Country at McDonogh, 5:00 p.m.
St. Frances at Archbishop Spalding, 6:00 p.m.
Calvert Hall at Gilman, 6:15 p.m.
Mount Carmel at Gerstell Academy, 6:30 p.m.
Annapolis Area Christian at Loyola Blakefield, 6:30 p.m.
Mount St. Joseph at John Carroll, 7:00 p.m.

Six teams in the B Conference are also playing a season with the opening game on Wednesday as defending champion Archbishop Curley visits St. Mary’s. Also competing in the B Conference schedule are Chapelgate Christian, Indian Creek, St. John’s Catholic Prep.

In addition, three C Conference programs – Concordia Prep, Cristo Rey and Saints Peter & Paul are playing a limited schedule.
