Down 4-1 to No. 2 Calvert Hall, Mount St. Joseph scored three times in the fifth and once more in the sixth,Thursday in Irvington, to upset the visiting Cardinals, 5-4.

The Gaels first run came on back-to-back first inning doubles by Sean Baranski and Pau Kaschak. Calvert Hall responded with a RBI double by Jeff Jones in the second and a solo home run by Brandon Dorsey in the third.

The Cardinals added another run in the fifth, but the Gaels responded in the home half of the inning. Ethan Gallagher sparked St. Joe with a solo home run to left. Later in the inning, Connor Feustle got a RBI single and Sean Zaransk scored on a wild pitch as the game was knotted at 4-4 at the end of five.

The top of the seventh provided a dramatic finish to the game.

Murphy reached first when he was hit by a pitch. Matt Conley replaced Pieniazek and Dorsey was retired on a fly ball to left. Elliot then doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third. With the infield up, shortstop Luke Hess fielded a ground ball and threw to catcher Jake Wyandt to retire Murphy for the second out. With two out Matt Conley bounced a pitch by Wyandt, but the carom off of the backstop allowed Jake Wyandt to retrieve the ball and tag Elliot out at home plate for the final out of the game.
