Eagles rout MSJ to even its record at 4-4
Don’t look now, but here come the Eagles.
Following an unexplainable 0-4 start to its MIAA A Conference lacrosse schedule, No. 6 McDonogh won its fourth consecutive league game and stayed in the chase for a playoff birth with an 18-5 home win over Mount St. Joseph, Tuesday afternoon.
McDonogh (10-4 overall) completely dominated the Gaels (2-13, 0-8), running out to a 13-1 halftime lead.
JP Ward paced the Eagles with four goals, while Noah Beecher, Matt Hilgartner, Dane Swanson and Jack Horrigan each had two goals. Harrison Beattie, Liam Powderly, Scott Cole, Matt McMillen, Jack Dudas and Ian Killefer each had single goal.
Powderly added four assists and Beecher had two.
McDonogh remains in seventh place, which is one spot out of the playoffs, but the Eagles still have great chance to qualify if they can win their final two games, Friday at Severn and next Tuesday at home against Gilman.
The Gilman game really holds the key, as it would provide the Eagles with a tie-break advantage over the Greyhounds with a win. Currently three teams are tied for fourth place, Gilman, Loyola and Boys’ Latin, each at 5-3. BL and Loyola both have head-to-head tie-breakers over McDonogh.
Will Bateman, Nick Groff, Addy Jenkins, Wesley Chairs and Brett Callahan scored for the Gaels.
