With the luxury of its turf field at Calvert Hall, the Cardinals’ top-ranked baseball team improved to 2-0, on Saturday, with a 6-0 shutout of St. John’s (DC).
Brennan Maher and Andrew Rosso combined to blank the Cadets with Maher making the start and pitching 4.1 innings. He allowed just four hits, walked one and struck out no one. Rosso allowed just one hit over the final 2.2 innings, with no strike outs and no walks.
The Cardinals scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings before breaking the game open with three in home half of the sixth.
AC Chavis was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Parker Landwehr had just one at bat but delivered with a RBI triple and scored a run. Michael Poling also had a triple and a RBI, while Jose Torres had a double and scored two runs. In addition, Gabe Nieto had a RBI and a run scored without benefit of a base hit.
The Cardinals have two huge games early this week, as they host second-ranked Gilman on Monday, for their MIAA A Conference opener, and then host third-ranked Bel Air on Tuesday.
