Loyola slams three home runs in a 15-4 win at St. Joe
It was opening day in MIAA A Conference baseball league play, Wednesday, and defending champion Loyola drilled eight extra-base hits, including three home runs as the Dons went on the road and ripped Mount St. Joseph, 15-4, in six innings in Irvington.
Will Glock led the assault with three hits, including two doubles and a home run, to go with four runs scored and two RBI. He had plenty of help as the Dons improved to 3-1 overall.
Emmett Reynolds delivered a three-run home run and AJ Holcomb had two hits, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Dom Dinoto, Chris McDonald and Jake Schouten also doubled for Loyola. McDonald finished 3-for-3 with there runs scored and two RBI, while Schouten and Sean Kelly each finished with a pair of RBI.
St. Joe (0-1 overall) hung tough in the early going, scoring four times over the first three innings to turn an early 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead. Loyola, however, responded with three in the top of the third and four in the fourth, before closing out the win with six in the sixth.
Justin Looney had a big day for the Gaels, going 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBI. He also walked once. Naite Reese also had two hits for St. Joe.
Matt Wyatt made the start for Loyola and allowed all four runs in 2.1 innings of work. Carson Barnes threw the final 3.2 frames, allowing just one hit, no runs and striking out five.
