On Tuesday afternoon, Cristo Rey traveled to Brooklandville to meet Park School in what proved to be a MIAA C Conference basketball thriller, with the host Bruins prevailing, 63-59.
Park point guard Michael Ginsburg hit two late free throws to put the Bruins on top and they closed out the victory to maintain their grip on second place in the league.
The Bruins got off to a 20-8 lead after one quarter and were led by Mark Rothleitner’s 23 point, while Wayne Cottman added 14 points.
Cristo Rey’s Jahmal Eggleston led all scorers with 28 points, and he led a strong second quarter surge by the Hornets which tied the contest. Eggleston was 12-of-13 from the free throw line in the contest.
With 20 seconds to play, Park was ahead 61-56 when Eggleston made a deep three pointer over two Bruin defenders to cut the Park lead to two. Ginsburg, who had 15 points on the day, then followed with his clinching free throws.
