Three-sport star will play football and baseball for the Wildcats

Drew EhrlichGilman School three-sport standout Drew Ehrlich has announced his verbal commitment to play both Division I football and baseball for Villanova University. Previously, the Greyhound senior had committed to William & Mary University for football only.”I am excited to continue my athletic career at such a strong academic institution,” said Ehrlich. “I especially appreciate the willingness of the football and baseball programs to allow me the opportunity to compete in both sports. Thanks to all of my teachers and coaches for helping to make this day possible.”Ehrlich, the son of former Maryland governor Bob Ehrlich, was a standout defensive back for the Gilman football team the last two seasons, earning All-MIAA honors in 2016. He also played in the BTC All-Star Classic in December.Currently, Ehrlich is completing his senior season with the Greyhound baseball team where he is the team’s starting catcher and late inning closer on the mound.
“Drew Ehrlich’s career at Gilman has been exemplary.  In addition to being a super person and leader, he is one of the finest student-athletes in our school,” sad Tim Holley, Ehrlich’s football coach and the Athletic Director at Gilman. “He has been a major contributor to our football, basketball, and baseball programs throughout his high school years. Personally, I have had the great blessing of directly coaching Drew in basketball and football. In addition, I had the privilege of being a teammate of his father’s in the 1970s. I feel a strong personal affection for Drew and his family I am thrilled for Drew and Villanova; it’s a win-win for a wonderful student-athlete and great university.”Villanova, located in Philadelphia, plays football in the Colonial Athletic Conference and baseball in the Big East Conference.Ehrlich also played varsity basketball for Gilman.
