Greyhounds clip John Carroll on Parker’s 3-pointer late in regulation
After a 3-0 start, Gilman School basketball has been in reverse. With the Greyhounds staring at another defeat Wednesday, Matthew Parker brought the misery to an end.
The sophomore reserve’s 3-pointer with three seconds remaining in regulation gave Gilman a 63-61 victory over John Carroll School in a MIAA A Conference contest at the Finney Center in Roland Park. Junior guard Christian Winborne had a game-high 22 points for the Greyhounds (3-4 overall), who snapped a three-game losing streak, and Malik Missouri added 11.
Parker’s dagger, set up by Winborne’s pass to the corner, capped a thrilling comeback by the Greyhounds, who overcame an 11-point deficit. Parker had eight points Wednesday, along with Matthew Cooper and Jalen Marshall.
Junior guard Tyson Commander had 17 points for John Carroll (2-5), and Jeannot Basima added 14. The Patriots, who snapped a three-game losing skid Monday (defeated St. Maria Goretti), host Gerstell Academy Friday in MIAA A action.
Gilman is on the road Friday for a MIAA A match at Archbishop Spalding.
