Hagan leads Falcons with a grand slam; BL/AACS postponed until Saturday
Gerstell Academy hosted Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the opening round of the MIAA B Conference baseball playoffs, Friday in Finksburg, and the Falcons rolled to an 11-1 victory, advancing them to Monday’s second round of the double-elimination tournament.
Gerstell scored six runs in the 4th-inning to break things open. The offensive onslaught by the Falcons was led by a Chris Hagan grand slam blast deep into the pond beyond the left field fence.
Reece Early held the Cougars in check as he tossed 4.2, giving up only two hits while striking out nine.
The Falcons (13-6) will remain in the winners bracket and travel to Ellicott City to face top-seeded Glenelg Country.
Mount Carmel will also return to action on Monday, in the tournament’s first elimination game. The Cougars will face the loser of the other first round game, between 3rd-seeded Boys’ Latin and 6th-seeded Annapolis Area Christian. That contest was postponed on Friday and has been rescheduled for Saturday at noon at Calvert Hall.
The BL/AACS winner will advance in the winner’s bracket to face St. Vincent Pallotti at Panther Park on Monday. If Boys’ Latin wins, AACS will travel to Mount Carmel. If AACS wins, Mount Carmel will visit Boys’ Latin.
