Stanton hits go-ahead shot with just 12 seconds to play

Despite leading most of the night on the road against an MIAA A Conference/BCL foe, Gerstell Academy, the defending MIAA B Conference champs, needed some late heroics from Jeremiah Stanton to pull out a 63-59 upset of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Wednesday evening in Essex.

Stanton, who scored 13 points in the contest, sank a three with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Gerstell went on to the four-point victory.

The Falcons (1-2) led 19-16 at the end of one quarter and held a five-point advantage at the half. Mount Carmel made a move in the final quarter.

Anthony Carpenter led Getstell with 14 points and Ahmad Harrison joined Stanton with 13 points. Mount Carmel’s Dwight Perry scored a game-high 19 points and Teon Rushing added 16 for the Cougars, who were playing their season opener.
