No. 18 Falcons extend win streak to 10; Washington scores 13

The beat continues for Gerstell Academy boys’ basketball. The No. 18 Falcons defeated 17th-ranked and previously undefeated Indian Creek School, 55-51, in a MIAA B Conference contest Saturday afternoon in Finksburg.

Khyle Washington led Gerstell with 13 points, and Anthony Carpenter added 11. Malik McKinney finished with a game-high 20 points for Indian Creek.

The Falcons (12-8 overall, 8-1 MIAA B) led wire-to-wire, avenging a 75-55 loss to Indian Creek in Crownsville Dec. 20. Two days later, Gerstell lost to St. Vincent Pallotti in a non-league decision.

The Falcons haven’t loss since. After rallying past Winters Mill Friday evening, Gerstell jumped on Indian Creek Saturday, scoring the game’s first 11 points.

The Eagles (15-1, 10-1 MIAA B) battled back, securing a 25-24 halftime lead. Gerstell regained control, building an 11-point advantage in the fourth. Indian Creek got within four with 12 seconds remaining in regulation, but Gerstell held on for its 10th straight victory.

Brad Witt finished with 10 points for Gerstell, which plays at St. Mary’s Wednesday. Indian Creek has exams this week and will return to the hardcourt Feb. 5 against defending league champ St. Paul’s School.
