Little Hoyas score three unanswered goals in the fourth to take opener

In between the snow of late last week and more expected on Sunday afternoon, the 2019 high school lacrosse season got underway on Saturday afternoon, as St. Mary’s traveled to Bethesda to take on Georgetown Prep in the season opener for both squads.
It was a tight battled tied at 10 after three quarters, but the host Little Hoyas scored the only three goals of the fourth quarter and walked away with a 10-7 victory.
The game remained tied for much of the fourth quarter, but Georgetown Prep broke on top with an extra-man goal by junior James Flannery with with just 2:08 remaining in the contest. Senior Thomas Whittier than gave Prep a two-goal lead and the Little Hoyas added some icing with 45 seconds left.
Georgetown Prep also scored the first two goals of the game, but St. Mary’s battled to take a 3-2 lead after three quarters. The teams were tied, 5-5, at the half and 7-7 after three.
Nick Lilly led St. Mary’s with three goals and BJ Burlace scored two. Garrett Nilsen and Alex Wicks each had one goal, while Ryan Jones had a pair of assists.
Rory Bracken and Finn Muldoon each had two goals for Georgetown Prep.
