In a tight battle at the top of the MIAA B Conference soccer standings, Friends School picked up an important win on Senior Day, Monday, as the Quakers defeated visiting Mount Carmel, 5-1.

The win allows Friends (9-2-3, 9-2-2) to remain in second place in the conference, just one point back of league leading Severn (10-1) and four points in front of third place Saints Peter & Paul (8-2-1), as all three battle for a top two seed and the first round playoff bye that comes with it.

Steve Bogusky got Friends on the board early as he finished a good through ball from Jack Benzer, far post. A few minutes later Mike Klausner scored a solo effort after beating three defenders and sophomore Liam Cullen made it 3-0 with a header from a set piece.

Mount Carmel got on the board by converting a penalty kick after a handball call, but, right before halftime, Paul Benzer scored with a close tap in to make it 4-1.

The second half was a slow affair but freshman Alex Shine scored his first
high school goal for the Quakers by beating the goalie in a one-on-one situation to set the final score at 5-1.
