Murphy sparks a big first quarter for the Indians

Senior center Ben Murphy scored 10 of his game-high 23 points in the opening quarter as host Franklin built a 20-9 lead and cruised to a 78-64 season opening boys basketball victory over sixth-ranked McDonogh, Thursday night.

Murphy scored five consecutive field goals in the opening frame and finished the first half with 14 points.

Reggie Truitt added 13 points for the Indians and Shamar McCall added 11.

McDonogh, which has now lost back-to-back games and three of four after a 2-0 start, fell to 3-3 on the season. Jared Billups had a big night for the Eagles, matching Murphy for game-high honors with 23 points.

Dani Sennis-Sutton pitched in with 16 points for McDonogh and Curtis Jacobs scored 14.
