Cook has two hits and earns a save; Hopkins drives in two

St. Mary’s scored four runs in the top of the fifth to build a 7-1 lead against host Bullis and then held on for a 10-6 non-league win the Saints’ season opener, Wednesday in Potomac.

Leadoff hitter Brandon Cook ignited the St. Mary’s offense by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. In addition, Cook pitched the final 1.2 innings, needing just eight pitches to record five outs and earn the save.

Andy Hood made the start and allowed just one run over four innings to earn the win, while allowing just three hits and earning the win.

Nick Hopkins had two hits in three at bats, with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI, while McCormick Butler had two RBI without benefit of a base hit.
