No. 12 Calvert Hall College made it two in row at the Benedictine Capital City Classic, Saturday in Richmond, beating host and previously undefeated Benedictine College Prep, 82-69, in the semifinals behind big performances from Drew Edwards and Nico Clareth.

The victory moved the Cardinals, now 13-1, into Sunday’s title game against Haverford School from Pennsylvania.

Clareth, a sophomore, scored 21 points, but Edwards was a cut above everyone with 35 points.  Both players added six rebounds each.

Sean Mayberry added 13 points for Calvert Hall, while Reggie Rouse and Chris Wallace combined for 10 points and 14 rebounds. In addition, TJ Duckett added three points and eight rebounds.

The Cardinals built an eight-point lead in the first quarter and broke the contest open in the third quarter, outscoring Benedictine, 33-13. Mount St. Joseph and McDonogh School, Calvert Hall’s MIAA A Conference rivals, are also in the tournament.

The No. 5 Gaels got 19 points from Villanova University recruit Phil Booth and Jordan McNeil added 15 in a 75-47 rout of Walshingham Academy (Va.) in the consolation bracket. Jaylen Adams, a Jacksonville University recruit, finished with 13 points for the Irvington school, which lost to Virginia’s Trinity Episcopal in Friday’s opening round.

The Gaels will play St. Albans (D.C) in the fifth-place consolation game on Sunday at 2:45 p.m. St. Albans advanced with a 49-35 victory over McDonogh School.

Evan Fisher scored 20 points for McDonogh. The Eagles will battle Walsingham Academy on Sunday at 1 p.m. for seventh-place.
