Undefeated McDonogh has 5th spot; Elkton lands in Top 20

McDonogh School’s turnaround season has been noticed by those covering high school football. The Eagles are No. 5  in the new state media Top 25 poll.

The undefeated Owings Mills school (6-0), which won its MIAA A Conference opener with an impressive 28-8 decision over Calvert Hall College, is one of nine local squads in the state rankings. McDonogh won just 3 games last season.

St. Frances Academy remains the unanimous No. 1 with Mount St. Joseph (4th), McDonogh School, Archbishop Spalding (No. 7) and Calvert Hall College (10th) in the Top 10. Franklin remains the area’s highest ranked public team at No. 11.

Also of local interest in the poll are No. 14 Loyola Blakefield, No. 19 Elkton and No. 22 Mervo. Elkton moved up after pounding defending Class 2A state champ Oakdale from Frederick County last weekend.
