Cooper’s 20 points lead McDonogh to Palmer tourney championship match
After a mostly rough first few weeks, McDonogh School boys basketball is finding its groove in upstate New York. The Eagles defeated Pennsylvania’s Bishop McDevitt, 53-50, in the National Division semifinal at the Josh Palmer Fund/Elmira Holiday Inn Tournament at Elmira (N.Y.) High.
Everett Cooper’s basket with 43 seconds remaining in regulation broke a 50-50 deadlock. The junior guard finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Eagles (8-8 overall), and sophomore Dani Dennis-Sutton added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Jared Billups had 10 points and six rebounds for the Owings Mills school, which has won three straight after dropping its previous five decisions. The Eagles will play Ohio’s Paintsville Harvey for the title, Monday evening at 8:45 p.m.
