Saints Peter & Paul edges Severn for a share of first place; Concordia routs Park; MIAA B Conference soccer roundup

With a lead pack in the MIAA B Conference soccer standings starting to form, Wednesday’s match between Gerstell Academy and host Annapolis Area Christian was critical for both teams if they want to stay within range of the early leaders.
Gerstell, led by a two goals and two assists from senior captain Nate Dresin, prevailed in the high-scoring affair, squaring its league and overall record at 2-2.
Fellow captain Max Friedman also score and Malchi Darden netted a goal for the Falcons as well. In addition, Brennan Sedney recorded 10 saves in goal.
AACS slipped to 1-3-1, in the league and overall.
Elsewhere, Saints Peter & Paul handed No. 18 Severn, which has won the last three MIAA B titles, its second straight league loss, as the Sabres (3-1-1, 3-1-1) collected their 8th, 9th and 10th points of the season to claim a share of first place in the league, along side Friends (3-0-1).
Aidan Ryan and Owen Schroeder scored in the 2-1 road victory for SSPP. Devin McCarty, with an assist from Everett Cortes, scored for Severn (3-4 overall, 2-2 MIAA B).
Also on Wednesday, Concordia Prep routed Park School, 6-1, on the Saints home turf in Towson.
Angelo Poblete had a four point day, with two goals and two assists, while Taylor Calheira also scored twice and added one assist.
Concordia added single goals from Andrew Schnaak and Dylan Arthur, while Reuben Devaney provided an assist. Noah Gregory added five saves.
Concordia (4-1-1 overall) is now 3-1 in the B Conference, just a point back of the leaders. Despite the loss, Park is also 4-1 overall and 3-1 in league play and the Bruins currently share third place with Concordia.
