McDonogh’s Paul DiPino blasted a 3-run home run in the top of the 10th inning and Matt Spind retired host Mount  St. Joseph in order in the bottom the 10th, completing five scoreless innings of relief, as McDonogh took a 5-2 MIAA A Conference baseball victory in Irvington.

Robert McHugh led off the McDonogh 10th with a line single to center-field and Ben Smith followed with a ground single to left. DiPino followed and drove an 0-1 pitch over the center-field fence for what proved to be the winning runs.

Both teams scored a pair of runs in the third inning. After Smith walked and DiPino reached on an error, Logan Lach was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Adam Rosenstein drew a walk to drive in the first run and Will Margraff plated the second Eagle run with a fielder’s choice grounder.

The Gaels tied the game with a two-run double off the bat of Michael McManus in the home half of the inning.

Batting leadoff, DiPino had two hits in six trips, scoring a run and driving in three. Smith scored a pair of runs.

St. Joe managed just three hits in the contest, all off Rosenstein, who started and went the first five innings. Spind came on in the sixth and tossed five brilliant innings, not allowing a hit, striking out four and allowing just one walk.

McDonogh (4-9 overall) improved to 3-6 in the A Conference, while St. Joe (3-10 overall) fell to 1-7 in league play.
