River Hill and Fallston return to poll; Westminster makes debut

No. 1 Calvert Hall College and No. 2 McDonogh School played another epic one goal battle last Friday and the Eagles prevailed in overtime to give the two teams a split of the regular season meetings, each winning on their home field.

The result leaves the two squads in a virtual dead heat atop the VSN Boys Soccer Week 5 Top 20, with Calvert Hall holding a slight edge and staying at No. 1, based on their overall body of work thus far. Odds favor one of these two teams, if not both, reaching the MIAA A Conference championship game, which is where the final No. 1 ranking will most likely be settled.

Another MIAA A contender, Loyola Blakefield has finally hit stride after a slow start and the Dons have jumped up to No. 3 in this week’s poll. Catonsville held its ground at No. 4 and undefeated Liberty moved from No. 9 to No. 5.

No. 15 Fallston and No. 18 River Hill are both back in the rankings this week, while Westminster debuts at No. 17.
