Ten local teams placed in the preseason state media Top 25 poll that was released Tuesday afternoon.

McDonogh School is the area’s highest ranked squad at No. 3. Perennial Washington Catholic Athletic Conference powerhouses DeMatha Catholic from Prince George’s County and Montgomery County’s Good Counsel are Nos. 1 and 2.

Six MIAA A Conference programs are in state poll with Mount St. Joseph at 14th; St. Frances Academy at 15th and Calvert Hall College at 16th. Gilman School, last year’s top-ranked team in the state, placed 23rd.

Howard, which reached the Class 4A state final last fall, is the top area public team at No. 13 followed by Broadneck (17th), Franklin (No. 19) and Old Mill (20th). St. Vincent Pallotti landed in the others receiving votes category.
