Both Baltimore squads go 2-2 at the All-America Underclass Tournament South Region
Looking to follow-up the success of the Baltimore Girls Command and Highlight teams, which won All-America Underclass South Regional titles on Friday, the boys squads got off to an uneven start in the pool play portion of their tournaments, Saturday at Meadowood Regional Park.
In the Command division, for players in the 2023 and 2024 classes, Baltimore went 2-2. Baltimore opened the event with a 10-4 rout of the South, but closed the day with an 8-7 loss to the same South team. In the middle of the day, Baltimore dropped an 8-5 decision to Washington, D.C. and then bounced back to defeat D.C., 9-8.
D.C. swept both of its contests with the South to finish 3-1 and claim the top seed for Sunday’s championship bracket. Baltimore, as the two seed, must play the South in a semifinal game, at 11:00 a.m., with the winner advancing to face Washington for the title at 2:00 p.m.
Baltimore’s McCabe Millon (McDonogh) led all scorers with 10 goals. Jacob Todd (Severn) had five goals and three assists, while Wyatt Hottle (Calvert Hall) and Josh Kelly (Calvert Hall) also scored five goals each.
In the Highlight division, for players in the 2021 and 2022 classes, Baltimore opened with an 8-5 win over the South, but struggled to score in a 6-3 loss to D.C., which went undefeated in pool play. Baltimore pounded the South, 14-5, in their next game, but were then routed by Washington, 9-2, in the day’s final game.
Sunday, Baltimore will face the South in a semifinal game. With a win the team would earn one more shot at Washington, in the championship game at 2:00 p.m.
