Curley’s Richardson named Gatorade Maryland Soccer Player of the Year
Archbishop Curley soccer player Nick Richardson, who just completed is junior year with the Friars, has been named the 2017 Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year.
Richardson, also named the Varsity Sports Network Defensive Player of the Year, recently committed to play his college soccer for the University of Maryland, after completing his senior year at Curley.
“Nick is well deserving of this honor,” said Curley coach Barry Stitz. “He is a center back but does so much more on the field than just defend. He is good in the air, has a long throw, scores big goals, and is a natural leader. Off the field Nick is focused academically and exhibits strong character.”
Richardson has trained with the U17 U.S. Men’s National Team. As a center back, he draws the assignment of guarding the opposing team’s top offensive player and has proved to be an offensive weapon as well, slipping up top to score nine goals and create nine assists in his three years with the Friars.
