Archbishop Curley junior soccer player Nick Richardson, the 2016 Varsity Sports Network Defensive Player of the Year, has verbally committed to play his college soccer at the University of Maryland.
Richardson recently participated the U17 U.S. Men’s National Team training camp in February in Bradenton, Fla.
In the fall, Richardson had four goals and six assists while anchoring a Curley defense that had nine shutouts. The team finished ranked second in the VSN Boys Soccer Top 20 and was the runner-up in the MIAA A Conference.
Richardson had a expressed an interest to play his college soccer within close driving distance of Baltimore, but had begun to receive offers from several top Division I programs.
At Maryland he will play for head coach Sasho Criovski, who has led the Terps to 21 NCAA post-season appearances and national championships in 2005 and 2008. Maryland also won the 2014 and 2015 Big Ten Tournament championships and six Atlantic Coast Conference titles under Criovski.
