Under head coach Sean Murphy, entering his 20th season as head coach at Archbishop Curley, the Curley Friars have a been a model of consistency in the MIAA B Conference and 2016 appears to be more of the same.

Curley has appeared in the B Conference championship game in each of the last three years, winning the title, their 5th under Murphy, in 2014. For the Class of 2017 to make it four straight appearances in the title game this fall, Curley will once again rely on its running game.

Leading the way will be a pair of explosive senior backs. Tyrone Roper and James Diggs combined for 1,500 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns in 2015 and they will run behind an offensive line led by senior guard Jake Brown (6-2, 330), an All-MIAA and Super 22 selection, and junior guard Stevon Brown (6-3, 275).

“This team should be competitive in the B conference,” said Murphy. “Although, we return just nine full time starters, we return several players who started at least one game in 2015.”

Leading the defense will be Vinnie Shaffer (5-11, 290), an All-MIAA senior defensive lineman and Super 22 pick. Also expected to standout on defense are Zech Gordon (6-1, 170), a senior defensive back, and Seth Boyd (5-10, 190), a junior linebacker.

Murphy is also excited about a strong kicking game and for the debut of the Friars’ new synthetic turf field.
