Three Friars score in double figures

The Archbishop Curley basketball program, which is trying to rise up in the ranks of the MIAA B Conference, opened its 2017-18 season, Monday, with a 57-50 road upset of Archbishop Spalding of the A Conference.

Three Friars scored in double-figures with 6-foot-10 senior center Brendan Medley-Bacon leading the way with 18 points.

Spalding jumped out to an 18-13 lead after one quarter, but the Friars rallied to take a 27-26 advantage at the half. That lead grew to nine points after three quarters.

Junior Travis Dobbins scored 13 points for the Friars and senior Kevin Brooks finished with 10 points.

Senior Rene Alphonso led Spalding with 18 points and junior Amir Hall added 12 points.
