Similar to its performance against Friends on Wednesday, Archbishop Curley jumped out to a big first half lead against visiting Gerstell Academy, on Friday. This time, however, the Friars sustained their advantage, downing the Falcons, 50-42, and, in the process, climbed back into the middle of the MIAA B Conference playoff chase.
Kamron Chambers netted 12 points to lead Curley and Deion Booker netted 12.
Curley outscored the Falcons 12-6 in the opening quarter and led 26-10 at the half. Gerstell gained ground in both the third and fourth quarters, but the Friars (11-10 overall, 5-5 MIAA B) had enough juice to finish off the win.
Brad Witt scored a game-high 15 points to lead Gerstell (12-13 overall, 5-6 MIAA B). He also had eight rebounds.
The win moves Curley from fourth to second in the Red Division as continues to battle with Gerstell and Friends for just two playoff spots. Friends is also 5-6 in the league. They Quakers lost in a non-league with Gilman on Friday.
Curley will be at Severn on Monday, at St. John’s Catholic Prep on Wednesday and back home against St. Paul’s next Friday.
Gerstell, which has non-league game agains Westminster on Saturday, will close its conference schedule with a pair of home games, against Friends on Wednesday and Indian Creek next Friday. In addition to its game at Gerstell, Friends will travel to st. John’s next Friday.
