The Archbishop Curley football team rushed for 408 yards and gained 532 total yards, Friday, in a 39-6 MIAA B Conference win over St. Paul’s.
Senior Tyrone Roper ran 23 times for 268 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way, while James Diggs and Nick Sturgis combined another 119 yards and two more scores.
Roper got things going with a 67-yard TD run in the opening quarter and Diggs scored on an 11-yard run in the second quarter as the Friars (4-4, 2-2) built a 14-0 halftime lead. Curley added four more second half touchdowns to win going away.
In the final quarter, St. Paul’s quarterback Bobby Cade Mornhinweg completed a 68-yard touchdown pass to end a scoreless streak for the Crusaders (1-6, 0-4) that had reach 17 consecutive quarters.
Despite the victory, Curley saw its streak of three consecutive appearances in the league championship game come to an end on Friday. The Friars were eliminated from contention from the final when St. Vincent Pallotti defeated Boys’ Latin to clinch its spot in the championship game. The Friars will visit Pallotti next Friday night.
