Nixon homers and drives in three for the Friars
Archbishop Curley played its 2018 baseball season opener, Wednesday, and the Friars won big on the road as they routed St. Alban’s, 14-2, in six innings in Washington, D.C.
Curley scored two in the top of the first and then added eight more runs over the next two innings to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Landon stayed in the contest with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Friars invoked the run rule with a four run sixth.
Paul Nixon hit the first home run of the year for Curley and finished with three RBI. Nick Brown also had a big day with a pair of doubles and three RBI, while Andrew Ricker and Derrick Booker each drove in two and scored two. Also for the Friars, Tyler Locklear was 1-for-1 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI.
Curley had six doubles in the game. In addition to the two strikes by Brown, Booker, Tim Fair, Trent Gast-Woodward and Locklear had the two baggers.
Colton Noble made the start and got the win for the Friars, tossing four innings of one-hit ball, allowing 1 run (unearned) and striking out five. Nick Richardson went the final two innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out two.
