Three hat-tricks help the Friars stay unbeaten
With three-time champion John Carroll off to the MIAA A Conference, the last two runners-up in the MIAA B – Gerstell Academy and Archbishop Curley – are in the spotlight as title contenders in 2018 and the two matched-up Tuesday in Finksburg where the visiting Friars pulled out an impressive 17-15 victory to stay unbeaten.
Curley (3-0 overall, 3-0 MIAA B) prospered thanks to three hat-tricks, produced by seniors Noah Kellner and Brendon Clay and sophomore Nate Rollins. Brandon Smith added two goals for the Friars, while Ben Smith and David Bell each added one goal and one assist.
Also scoring single goals for Curley were Jordan Brown, Nick Ramage, Josh Knapp and Mitchell Foard.
The Friars needed all of those tallies to overcome the seven goal performance turned in by Gerstell’s Mike Ippoltito. CJ Kovalsky scored three goals for the Falcons, Seth Higgins had a big day with two goals and four assists, and Carson Houck had two goals and one assist.
Declan Kenney added a goal for Gerstell, which was playing its season opener, and Drew Huber had an assist.
